GPA Marine is an Australian-registered maritime and engineering consultancy operating from Cape Town, South Africa, and providing independent senior expertise to shipowners throughout Africa and internationally by arrangement.
Grant Park brings approximately 40 years of marine-industry experience, including 15 years at sea, and has personally surveyed more than 500 vessels worldwide.
Based in Cape Town, Grant is available for assignments across Africa, the Indian Ocean region and other international locations by prior arrangement.
GPA Maritime and Engineering Consultants was founded in 2010 by Grant Park, a Class 1 Marine Chief Engineer and former DNV Classification Society Surveyor. The consultancy gives shipowners, vessel managers and operators direct access to an experienced senior professional for marine surveys, inspections, docking support and vessel projects. Each assignment benefits from practical seagoing knowledge, independent judgement and clear technical reporting.
Grant combines an engineering and naval-architecture background with more than two decades of classification-society surveying experience. He is an Australian Maritime Safety Authority accredited surveyor and also holds inspection credentials associated with Liberia, Honduras and Vanuatu. These qualifications are supported by extensive experience gained at sea, aboard vessels and in shipyards, allowing technical findings to be assessed in their proper operational context.
GPA Marine is deliberately owner-led. Grant remains directly involved from the initial discussion and scope definition through inspection, reporting and final recommendations. His project experience includes vessel refits, repairs, technical upgrades and new-build supervision at shipyards across Asia. It also includes survey work connected with the Commonwealth of Australia's Air Warfare Destroyer new-building programme in Adelaide.
Learn More About Grant
GPA Marine prepares practical docking specifications and supports owners through dry-docking, repair and refit projects. Services may include advance planning, condition assessment, repair-scope development, shipyard liaison, progress monitoring, quality oversight and final reporting. This engineering-led approach helps owners identify priorities early, control technical risk and make informed decisions while work is underway.
Independent vessel surveys include condition, pre-purchase, pre-charter, on-hire and off-hire inspections, supported by clear findings and useful photographic evidence. GPA Marine also conducts ISM internal audits, technical and safety audits, marine-asset valuations and inspections undertaken for flag-state requirements within Grant's recognised appointments and authorisations.
Naval-architecture support includes stability and lightship assessments where these fall within the confirmed scope of appointment. Grant's Class 1 engineering background allows him to examine machinery, structure, operating condition and project requirements together, rather than treating them as unrelated issues. Clients receive experienced technical judgement focused on the vessel, the assignment and the owner's commercial priorities.
GPA Marine is best suited to shipowners and vessel managers who value direct access to the person responsible for the work. Communication is straightforward, reporting is disciplined and recommendations are practical. Grant's personal involvement provides continuity throughout the assignment and avoids work being passed between junior staff or separate departments. The result is responsive, independent support backed by substantial marine and surveying experience.
