GPA Marine is a Cape Town-based marine engineering and surveying consultancy giving shipowners throughout Africa direct access to senior, independent expertise.
GPA Marine is Australian registered and now operates from Cape Town, South Africa, supporting shipowners, vessel managers and operators across Africa and internationally by arrangement
Founded by Grant Park, a Class 1 Marine Chief Engineer and former DNV Classification Society Surveyor, GPA Marine provides independent technical expertise in vessel surveys, docking supervision, project management and owner's representation.
Grant has approximately 40 years of marine-industry experience, including 15 years at sea and more than 500 vessels personally surveyed. Clients deal directly with the experienced professional responsible for assessing the vessel and preparing the report.
Grant is accredited as a marine surveyor by the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and holds flag-inspection credentials associated with Liberia, Honduras and Vanuatu.
Grant Park is GPA Marine's founder and principal consultant. He spent 15 years at sea as an engineer and progressed to Class 1 Marine Chief Engineer. He subsequently gained more than two decades of experience as a DNV Classification Society Surveyor, inspecting vessels, machinery and marine systems across varied operating environments and international locations.
His experience extends beyond surveys to docking preparation, superintendent duties, shipyard supervision and vessel project management. Grant has worked with shipowners through technically demanding repairs and refits where sound planning, clear communication and independent oversight were essential.
This combination of seagoing engineering, classification surveying and hands-on project delivery equips Grant to act as a practical independent owner's representative.
GPA Marine's advantage is personal access to proven senior expertise. The consultancy does not present itself as a large multi-office firm and does not assign important work to junior surveyors after the initial discussion.
The service is intended particularly for smaller shipowners and vessel managers who need experienced, independent assistance without the layers of a large consultancy. Grant remains involved in defining the assignment, completing the work and communicating the findings.Class 1 engineering judgement, docking supervision and project management are delivered personally. Clear scope definition, travel readiness, responsive communication and disciplined reporting support assignments throughout Southern and West Africa and elsewhere by arrangement.
